What is carbon-aware computing?
Carbon-aware computing means scheduling workloads to run when and where the electricity grid is cleanest. By shifting AI jobs to times of high solar or wind production — or to regions with low-carbon grids — we can dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of GPU compute without any performance penalty for the end user.
How does Green Cycles differ from AWS/GCP/Azure?
Hyperscalers offer carbon dashboards but don’t actively route workloads based on carbon intensity. Green Cycles makes carbon-awareness the default: every job is scored and scheduled to minimise emissions. We also offer a decentralised provider model, meaning anyone with spare GPU capacity — from home labs to small data centres — can participate.
What GPUs are supported?
At launch, we support NVIDIA GPUs from the RTX 3090 through H100 families. Our agent software runs on any Linux system with CUDA support. We plan to add AMD ROCm and Intel GPU support in future phases.
How are providers verified as “green”?
We offer three tiers: Verified Green (2% commission) for providers with certified renewable energy documentation, Self-declared Green (4%) for those who attest to renewable usage, and Standard (6%) for all others. Verified providers receive priority in carbon-aware scheduling and pay the lowest platform fee.
Is my data safe?
Yes. All workloads run in isolated containers with encrypted data in transit and at rest. Provider nodes never see raw customer data. We’re GDPR-compliant and building towards ISO 27001 certification. All compute stays within the EU.
